Black: The Ultimate Shooter's Pistol

What do you get, when you want to build a pistol that is setup for competition, but built upon the concept of drip dry practicality? What do you get when you throw out the rules? I give you, the BLACK.

This design started life as the frame from which we build the Directed Operations Group pistols but without the cross slot required for a pistol mounted light/laser.  The slide too comes from the DOG line but the barrel, bushing, and spring plug are our new Extreme Duty/Match series.  The bushing is without a doubt, the biggest available on the market and is double the thickness of the standard Gov’t bushings.  Of course spring plugs must match, not only for function but for beauty.  But the heart of this pistol is the barrel.  Our barrels are subjected to proprietary surface coating properties that make the barrel smoother, faster and more accurate than a plain Stainless Steel Match barrel.  This process transforms the color of the barrel to a beautiful gray which is very pleasant to look at when paired to the other surface treatments……and that surface is hard.

The pistol is handcrafted from the finest components available and optimized for accuracy and reliability.

The surface coatings available these days are many with different characteristics in each.  The pistol in these photographs was treated with W.E. Birdsong Black-T, a proprietary surface coating used by this nation’s elite Military and Law Enforcement agencies.  Mr. Birdsong’s finish is the only finish used by the United States Navy Seal community and is one of my personal favorites.  Other coatings are available to include PVD, Electro-Less Nickel with Teflon, and Tennifer.

Gone are non-working, easily damaged, decorative features found on some other high end pistols.  BLACK series pistols were meant to be shot and not just admired from a distance in your vault.

As this is a competition gun, absolute reliability is the first order of business, closely followed by accuracy.  The pistol must feed, fire and extract flawlessly every time.  As such, only the finest parts hand massaged to near perfection are used.  As we manufacture our own slides, frames, barrels, bushings and magazines, feed geometry is designed into the parts.  No longer must the gunsmith conceive proper geometry from parts machined from different manufacturers as was the case on previous one of a kind pistols.  Our pistols were designed to work first.

The frame was checkered with 15 LPI for complete competition functionality.  And having worked with this LPI configuration previously, I have come to appreciate it completely.  The Shredder grips are designed to work with a gloved hand, but that is an ancillary item to the primary purpose of giving the shooter an unparalleled grip with the naked hand on the pistol.

The fire control system has been methodically lightened for competition and the trigger pull is set up accordingly.  And yes, this trigger is set to break like the proverbial piece of glass.   The trigger is flat and lightened!  I find the flat trigger aggravates the pad of my finger and gives me a better feel of the competition weight trigger pull.

As someone who has owned, loved and shot some of the best 1911 pistols on the market, I can honestly say I love this more, and, I think you will too.

The pistols are available in Generation II, with Generation I pistols needing to be special ordered.  The Generational difference is merely the frame design used.
